OFFICIAL RULES AND REGULATIONS

 

 

  1. Fees
    1. Fees must be paid in full by the deadline in order for a team to be eligible to play.
    2. All fees paid are non-refundable under any circumstance.
    3. Teams have the option of obtaining sponsorships to cover team fees.

 

  1. Registration/Roster
    1. The league is open to male participants only.
    2. Participants must be at least sixteen (16) years of age.
    3. All participants must be of Assyrian heritage. No exceptions.
    4. Any teams who violate the above rule are subject to suspension pending review from the AAC Executive Board.
    5. Players must be formally registered prior to the set deadline. Individuals listed on a roster without having registered will be ineligible to play.
    6. Individual rosters must consist of a minimum of seven (7) players and no more than the maximum of twelve (12).
    7. Players must be listed on a team's roster in order to participate in games. Additionally, no player will be permitted to play without formal registration.
    8. Once rosters are submitted, it is final. Only trades authorized by the league committee will be permitted.
    9. Trades are only permissible in the first half of the season, unless otherwise stated.

 

  1. Roster
    1. Individual rosters must contain a minimum of seven (7) players and no more than the maximum of twelve (12).

    3. Trades are only permissible in the first two weeks of the season, unless otherwise stated.
    4. Players must be listed on a team's roster in order to participate in games.
    5. A minimum of four (4) players from each team must be suited in order to begin a game.

 

  1. Uniforms
    1. Teams are responsible for obtaining jerseys prior to the beginning of the season. Jerseys must be identical. Numbers are required on the backside of the jersey.
    2. Players will not be permitted to participate in a game without a team jersey. No exceptions.
    3. All players must be wear shorts.

 

  1. Qualifications: Awards and Playoffs
    1. In order to qualify for playoffs, a player must:
      • attend more than 50% of their scheduled games (when seasons have an odd number of games)
      • attend 50% or more of their scheduled games (when seasons have an even amount of games)
    2. Attendance requires that a player either participates in the game by playing or observing from the bench. Players who have not fulfilled this requirement will be ineligble to play in the post-season.
    3. Only players who have played in at more than 60% of their scheduled games may receive an individual award. Players who have not met this requirement will be ineligible for formal recognition.

 

  1. Game Rules and Player Conduct
    1. The league incorporates select rules from the National Basketball Association, the National Collegiate Athletic Association, and the Illinois High School Association.
    2. A team will not be permitted to participate in a game with less than four (4) players present. Any team that cannot meet this requirement will be forced to forfeit the game and fined $100 due by the following week.
    3. Each team is permitted to seat one (1) individual not listed on their roster (a coach). This individual must follow the player code of conduct, and the team may suffer disciplinary action (including technical fouls) should they be violated.
    4. Team rankings are determined by overall record. All ties are settled with a head-to-head determination. Should there be a 3+ more tie, tie breakers are determined by point differential.

    5. Teams will not be penalized if their opponents forfeited. In the event of a forfeit, the opposing team will be awarded the average of its total points thus far. The forfeiting team will in turn receive zero (0) points.
    6. The game clock will run non-stop throughout the first half. It stops only in the second half when the deficit is below ten (10) points.
    7. The game begins with a tip-off to determine initial possession. The possession arrow will be granted to the team that does not receive the tip-off. The team that ends the first half with the possession arrow in their favor will claim opening possession in the second half.
    8. If the end of regulation results in a tie, a three (3) minute overtime period will follow. This will continue until a winner is determined. The clock will operate without stopping should the deficit exceed ten (10) points. Both teams will be granted an additional timeout for each overtime period entered. Overtime offers no changes in a team's foul situation.
    9. The first six (6) non-active shooting fouls in each half will be taken on the sidelines. The seventh (7) foul will result in a one-and-one free throw. The tenth (10) foul will be settled with an automatic two (2) free throws.
    10. A player is allowed five (5) fouls. Upon obtaining a sixth (6) foul, a player is fouled-out and is unable to play the remainder of the game.
    11. The designated team captain is the only individual permitted to speak with the officials on behalf of his team. A player in violation of this rule may receive a technical foul

 

  1. Extra Caricular Activity
  • Verbal abuse directed at another player, coach, or official will result in a technical foul.
  • Technical fouls result in two (2) free-throws. A player who receives more than one (1) technical foul will be ejected from the game. No exceptions. The same rule applies to individuals on the bench. A technical foul is also registered as a personal foul and a team foul. The team that had possesion prior to the foul retains possession. An ejection from a game leads to an automatic suspension.
  • Individuals that participate in a physical altercation will be ejected from the game, regardless of which party initiated the conflict. Disciplinary action may be taken pending review of the AAC Executive Board.
  • Players are expected to conduct themselves in an orderly fashion both on and off the court. All league participants must honor the code of conduct at all times, even when in the audience.
  • The AAC Executive Board reserves the right to suspend/expel individuals in violation of the listed rules.
  • In the event of a suspension, the team captain reserves the right to submit an appeal within three (3) days. Appeals will not be accepted thereafter. Appeals presented to the AAC Executive Board require a non-refundable fee of $25.00. A decision will be given within two (2) days of the appeal.
  • The AAC Executive Board holds final judgment in all cases covered and not covered in the above rules and regulations. The board is represented at the games by a single league commissioner identified at the start of each season.
  • An ejection from a game or 4 accrued techinicals over a season will result in suspension for the following game.
